San Ramon, CA, USA – Feb 20, 2018 – The EnOcean Alliance and ViCOS strengthen their collaboration in order to develop smart building solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) and build a bridge to a global network.
By partnering with ViCOS, one of the pioneers of bidirectional actuators and self-powered EnOcean sensors, the EnOcean Alliance strengthens the proven EnOcean ecosystem and promotes the standardization of smart building solutions for the Internet of Things. Going forward, ViCOS will be an important player in the EnOcean Alliance, one who actively supports the further development of the EnOcean wireless standard for energy-efficient building solutions. Ever since the EnOcean Alliance was founded in 2008, ViCOS has worked actively on EnOcean standardization and certification and has thus for years worked with the EnOcean Alliance to shape the future of smart homes, intelligent buildings and the Internet of Things.
Design-in support for the EnOcean wireless standard
ViCOS offers its customers a complete portfolio, from product development to industrialization and mass production, including test solutions, from a single source. The extensive portfolio includes the ViACT product platform for EnOcean actuator systems (switches and actuators in a single product), the ViSENS platform for EnOcean sensor systems (solar-driven multisensor platform), and the portfolio of PROBARE test systems. These products are aimed at OEM companies that would like to launch EnOcean-based solutions onto the market under their own names or integrate them into their own systems. ViACT and ViSENS can be used to control lighting, shading, and ventilation, while a smartphone app and a central management system can be added, depending on the application. ViNET implements the secure and reliable routing of EnOcean messages and thereby ensures continuous EnOcean wireless coverage. The ViCOS ConfigTool handles the configuration of the ViACT actuators, the ViSENS sensors, and the ViNET routing functions, thus making it possible to plan and preconfigure entire EnOcean installations for the first time. The ViCOS ConfigTool also supports devices of other manufacturers, provided that they use the remote commissioning functions standardized by the EnOcean Alliance.
“We are delighted that ViCOS will henceforth support the EnOcean Alliance as a promoter member. ViCOS enriches the EnOcean ecosystem with its in-depth knowledge and many years of experience with design-in solutions for the EnOcean wireless standard in order to facilitate the development of new, innovative wireless solutions for smart homes and building automation. With its commitment to the EnOcean Alliance certification program, ViCOS supports the objectives of the EnOcean Alliance to create an interoperable and global network in order to make buildings around the world more energy- and cost-efficient and more sustainable,” explains Graham Martin, CEO, and Chairman of the EnOcean Alliance.
“We are very happy to be included among the EnOcean Alliance promoters. The use of EnOcean products has been expanding toward the mass market for a number of years now. Applications such as the smart home and the Internet of Things present us with new challenges. The proven energy harvesting technology and EnOcean wireless standard optimally geared to this technology permit outstanding solutions and self-powered products. Interoperability, certification, and worry-free installation and commissioning, even without any specialized knowledge, are other indispensable building blocks for successfully scaling technology in volume applications. In its role as promoter, ViCOS focuses on these aspects and will work toward helping the EnOcean Alliance continue to address new challenges in the future with its activities and successfully adept them along with its members,” says Thomas Rieder, Managing Director of ViCOS.
The EnOcean Alliance, which has more than 400 members, is one of the most successful alliances in the area of intelligent building control. The non-profit organization standardizes and develops intelligent building solutions integrating energy harvesting wireless technology.
EnOcean-based sensors and devices operate large numbers of IoT devices efficiently and supply reliable data to IoT systems. Furthermore, the EnOcean Alliance offers the benefit of a broad, proven ecosystem of interoperable energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions, which are available for intelligent buildings worldwide. These solutions help optimize the utilization of buildings, create new service models and make buildings more flexible, more energy-efficient, and altogether more cost-effective.
At Light+Building 2018 (March 18 to 23 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany), ViCOS will demonstrate its design-in solutions for self-powered wireless solutions in buildings at the shared booth of the EnOcean Alliance (9.1 B60).
About ViCOS
ViCOS is the only company specializing in EnOcean technology that can offer its customers a complete portfolio, from product development to industrialization and mass production and even test solutions from a single source. Since 2005, ViCOS has been developing and producing a wide range of EnOcean products for prominent customers in the field of building automation. As one of the pioneers of bidirectional actuators and self-powered sensors, ViCOS has extensive experience with EnOcean wireless systems and energy harvesting technology. The ViACT, ViSENS, and ViNET product platforms are based on this technology and offer outstanding features and very short implementation times for creating attractive end products. If available wireless modules cannot be used, ViCOS will even create customer-specific, chip-based implementations. In addition to EnOcean-based products, ViCOS also supplies the PROBARE product family, which includes the right measuring and testing technology for field tests, production, development, and certification. ViCOS also specializes in the manufacture of electronics for industry and investment goods. Its globally operating customers appreciate the company’s supply dependability and logistics services in series delivery as well as ViCOS life cycle engineering, from the prototype to the end of the product life cycle.
